In this raucous comedy set around a small town's zeal for its high school basketball tradition, Pete Ivey is a quiet and often overlooked 16-year-old who reluctantly agrees to substitute for his gregarious best friend Cleatus Poole when, unlike generations of Pooles before him, Cleatus cannot fulfill his duties as Brewster High School's mascot, a chicken. As Coach Mackey and the Roosters struggle through another abysmal season, a hidden persona is awakened in Pete who discovers he's a natural comedic performer. Soon, the chicken becomes the main attraction at games, but there's a problem -- no one knows it's really Pete. Meanwhile, his pal Cleatus is taking credit for the chicken's sideline antics; he becomes the talk of the town and sudden object of persnickety head cheerleader Jamie's attention while Angela, a soft-spoken cheerleader, befriends Pete. Once it's revealed that Cleatus is not in the costume, it is up to Pete resolve an identity crisis and realize people like him for more than just the chicken dance.
